Window Options - Glass

The glass in all North Star windows is glass double strength or better as a standard feature, and meets or exceeds industry standards. Glass is also available in a variety of attractive and practical options.

Triple-Glazing
North Star’s optional triple-glazed windows offer incredible energy efficiency. Triple-glazed windows utilize three panes of glass to dramatically reduce condensation and thermal transfer while insulating as much as 60% better than double-glazed windows.

Argon Gas
By replacing the air between the panes of a window with Argon gas – which is an inert, slow-moving gas – thermal performance is improved. Argon gas helps prevent convective heat loss (cold air moving through the window) as well as conductive heat loss (cold air being radiated from the window) to improve energy efficiency.

Krypton Gas
Krypton gas is an inert, slow-moving gas that replaces air between window panes to improve thermal performance. Denser than Argon, Krypton gas does a great job of preventing convective heat loss (cold air moving through the window) as well as conductive heat loss (cold air being radiated from the window) and is available exclusively in North Star triple glazed windows.

Self-cleaning Glass
Pilkington Activ™ Self-Cleaning Glass is available in every North Star window. A unique treatment allows the glass to break down dirt that collects on the surface, then dirt sheets off the surface with the next rain… minimizing streaks or spots.

Bronze Tint Glass
Bronze glass cuts down on the amount of glare and heat entering a building. The bronze coloration makes an especially dramatic statement for a glass facade and has become increasingly popular.

Grey Tint Glass
Heat and glare can be more easily controlled with North Star’s distinctive grey-tint glass. The level of tinting provides a measure of privacy while ensuring lots of light still enters a home.

Obscure Glass
When you need your privacy but you also want the sunlight, North Star’s obscure glass will provide an effective shield without shutting out the sun. Obscure glass, available in pebbled or glue chip pattern, is particularly useful for bathrooms, basements or along walkways.

Solar E Glass
North Star's Solar E glass is treated with super-thin layers of silver that keep out the heat of the sun's rays while offering an attractive, slightly grey tint. This high-performance product offers substantial energy savings for south- and west-facing structures exposed to the full force of the sun.

Tempered Glass
Tempered glass is the go-to option when safety issues are front-and-centre. The added strength (up to four times greater than conventional glass) of tempered glass means it can withstand blows that would shatter other glass. And there’s less chance of injury if it breaks because fragments are smaller.
